Day 304: Tanuki

In Japanese folklore there's a little trickster spirit/raccoon dog known as Tanuki. However, I've censored one of his more defining characteristics out. I'm thinking of the children, yo.

Pom poko pom!

Oh, Pom Poko. I will never, ever, ever, ever forget that scene where the old raccoon removes the "mat" from underneath his pupils.

BWA HA! Okay, I've never seen Pom Poko, but whatever scene that is seems like a traditional trick of the Tanuki. In one of the books we were reading about him, it said that he had---ahem---spread out a "mat" for weary travelers and when one of them dropped a cigarette and burned Tanuki, this "caused him to jump up and reveal himself"....to which Preston added: "And he wasn't revealed BEFORE?"

These uncensored dudes are everywhere. I'm so glad I don't have to answer Savin's questions about them...yet.
