A whole new waaaaaave...

I really AM drawing lately, it's just on top of a wooden doll and then covered with paint. Quibblies has gone 3D baby! Side note: my daughter says all these dolls have "elevator lips" and I have NO idea why. Anyone have a three year old translator handy? No? Aww.

Holla for a kokeshi doll...a

So this last week, I started a new business venture: custom painted kokeshi and peg dolls! Kokeshi dolls are pretty ubiquitous here in Japan, but I found some blank ones to paint myself which turned out pretty good. I've got this and a handful of other dolls up in my etsy shop if you're so inclined to give a gander. It's also kind of late so I got a bit loopy in writing out product descriptions.

Anyways, there it is! Enjoy your face off.

Just some random painting sketches. Getting back on the horse...the shaky, bucking, wild and rabid horse.

Surfing Fujicorn

One of the big projects I've been meaning to do this summer is paint my surfboard. However, I got a little nervous thinking about doing it because it would mean a) being without a board while it dries and b) AH WHAT IF IT SUCKS AHHH. Then I quit crying, put on my big girl boardshorts and just did it. Pretty pleased with the results! I still have a bit to clean up around the edges and my friend Nils is helping me put the shiny, watertight topcoat on later this week. But here it is!

Into watery battle, my steed!

Day 146: Pupils are for suckers

Babysat some awesome kiddos today and we spent some time flinging the old paintbrush around. I'd like to do a bit more detail on this, but it's late and time for me to go to bed and watch Planet of the Apes.

Day 76: This all makes sense in context

Today, I FINALLY completed the painting I had promised my friend for her wedding. (Their one year anniversary is on Sunday. ONE YEAR, GAH. Timing: I haz it.)

And inside jokes! This painting haz them too. I am not at liberty to explain. You may guess, though.

Day 74: Four piece mermaid

Four 6'' by 6'' canvasboards painted together and photographed poorly. I miss my scanner.

Day 73: The Reluctant Demon

A quick painting before the kiddo woke up this morning. My first time trying out canvas paper and I think I like it! A+++ would do business again.

Leftover paint from day 68.

(Peppered with leftover tears from this part in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2. OH SNAPE)

Day 68: Fishy fishies

Instead of packing up the rest of my house like a boss, I decided to start a three foot tall painting. It's not finished yet, but maybe I should wait until I'm on the plane to do that. LIKE A BOSS WITH REALLY GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS.
