Day 90: Galadrielish

She started off as Galadriel then I forgot the elven ears and the hair turned blue, so...

Funny story about blue hair! The first art student I tutored was 10 years old. I was showing her a few of my sketches and she asked, "Why does everyone have blue hair?" And I said, "Well, I think brown hair is pretty boring. I mean, you see it around every day. It's fun to see something different, right?" And she flipped through the gobs of blue haired people in my sketchbook and replied, "Well, if everyone you draw has it, it's not that different, is it?"

Well said, overly-perceptive-for-her-age 10-year-old. Well said.

Day 86: Toof-airy

Savin asked if I was drawing the tooth fairy. I said yes. She sighed and said, "Well...I guess that *kinda* looks like her" with a tone that clearly indicated otherwise.

Ah well.

Day 75: Horae

Let's be honest; I have no idea what I'm doing with these watercolor markers.

Day 72: Selfie Sunday: Team painting!

Today I had the exquisite pleasure of sitting down with the infamous Savin from Savin the Queen's Art Blog. We collaborated on this watercolor pen painting and were both really pleased with the results. More Savin art and musings on life can be seen at her blog here. Please enjoy. In the words of the artist herself: "Okay, that's it. I'm done."

Day 64: Gogo Tomago

Did you guys know that Gogo Tomago from Big Hero Six is Disney's FIRST Korean character? Fancy that! I SAID FANCY IT.

In other news, Big Hero Six is AMAZING. It's hilarious and touching and exciting and beautiful and holy crap, how many movies have I seen this week?? More BH6 inspired artwork coming soon, I'm sure.

Also, I was in bed by the time I finished this, so I took a picture instead of properly scanning it downstairs. Fancy that too, while you're at it.

Day 63: Maria! Maria Maria Maria!

The Book of Life!! I just saw it and it was AMAZING! I just wanna DIE it was so beautiful. This is main character Maria in some grossly messy watercolor pens. I had to crop Manolo out because he was looking ridiculous.

Go see THE BOOK OF LIFE! Go noooowwwwwww and leeeeeaaaave meeeeeeee!! (sorry, channeling some inner Phantom). Go see it!

Day 2: Happy Korra!

After watching the finale of Korra: Book 3, I really felt like I needed to see Korra jumping in puddles or something. ::holds back tears::

Our Wild World (vintage quibblies)

While trying to find a story to read the kiddos tonight, I ran across a book of rhymes and illustrations I had done for a children's poetry class a few years back. There were 18 poems in all; these were my favorites (even if the owl one did need a bit of explaining to the three year old.)

No, YOU move.

This is pretty much as surly as it gets.

Don't take off the helmet!

My first foray with a (single color) watercolor pencil. It scanned a little dark on one side, but I kinda liked it that way. This is ground control to Major Thomasina...

Guardian

No background yet, but I'll get up the guts to do it sooner or later. Also, this was done on a rather large piece of paper, hence the need to photograph it and not scan it. Colors were better, I swear! Maybe I should just start painting dull colors and hope they'll scan nice. Hmm. I see no flaw in that logic.

Light Urple Princess Redux

Trying out a new technique and using a familiar pose. I think I want this haircut now.

This was a triumph...

Anthdrawlogy is doing Portal this week!

My goodness, people, if you haven't played this game, you must. It's puzzle-y goodness with a really gripping story. I'm no gamer, but I like cake and it definitely promises oodles of that chocolately goodness.

Their love was beautiful. Their children were confusing.

And for the next in my series of long haired, sea-loving, possibly napping ladies...

Sposalizo del Mare #2

Finally painted it! Pardon the poor scan and the long delay. Two dead computers + impending baby + overwhelming classload has made me go...something something.

Ho ho blub blub ho

I think one of the great things about having kids is all the chances we get to glean weird, creative ideas from them.

"Mom, you drawing Santa?"
"Yep."
"NO! Draw a mermaid! Mermaid Santa!"
"I will do as you say, tiny warlord."

And for her coloring pleasure (because that's the whole point of having a mom draw stuff):

Check out all the Santas this week over at Anthdrawlogy!
